Flamenco guitar notation
I have been trying to notate some flamenco pieces based on notes
and handwritten attempts made years ago. There seems to be no
standard notation so I have chosen what I find convenient from
what others have used and what my music writing software
(Lime) has available.
The picture shows one simple example. The pause
symbol here represents a four-finger rasgueado; the
violin up- and down-bow symbols represent strumming
with the middle or index finger.
An alternative method of representing the single
rasgueado as given in an album by Monreal and Serrapi,
is given in the second figure. A third method uses the
arpeggiation symbol (Fig.3) but this use, like that of
the pause symbol, precludes normal usage.
Another associated problem is producing effective MIDI files.
This, after a little experimentation, has not yet been solved to
my satisfaction
